Classroom Canvas Project, Kandivali

The Classroom Canvas Project by Scribble Foundation brings together artists, students, and teachers to reimagine and create learning spaces that inspire. In a collaboration between Barefoot Designs and Scribble Foundation, we worked on the Kandivali Community Centre (KCC), a project by Teach for India fellows in Mumbai.

We wanted to involve the children in designing the space with natural paints. To start with, we conducted an orientation activity which focussed on the movements of animals in the wild. The children enacted and drew the movements while we posed as different animals. We had fun making natural paints with mud, oxide colours, and lime. An entire wall was dedicated for the kids to paint their renditions of a leopard using the sponge and dabbing techniques they had just learnt.
